Earthdawn 4E: Anatomy of a Thread Item 12 - Thunderguard

This is the twelfth 4E Anatomy of a Thread Item, an ongoing series about Earthdawn Fourth Edition. Introduction and Index.

Everything contained here is the work of a fan and not associated with FASA Games.

A thread item written for an online game I offered to help with thread items. This was written with the request for the Winds of Deflection spell as an effect. A single effect, that does a lot because it's written with the action economy of casting it in combat as your first Standard action. Thus the effect should be worth it. To maintain the request and balance, the effect was broken into two effects with an increased Strain cost for using both. Which should preserve the utility and keep it from getting out of hand.

Thunderguard

Maximum Threads: 2
Mystic Defense: 12
Legend Point Cost: Journeyman

A suit of crystal plate armor naturally sized for a troll. The design is brutalist, but the surface is carved with runic markings suggesting storms, lightning, and winds. Each rune shines with a barely constrained force. When worn by the owner with a thread attached, their movements are occasionally accompanied by a faint roll of thunder—depending on the owner’s mood.

The armor automatically resizes to fit the owner wearing it.
